JAKARTA: House of Representatives Commission X on youth and sports affairs has praised efforts by the Indonesian Premier League (LPI) in creating a better atmosphere for soccer in Indonesia.
Legislator Djamal Aziz hoped that LPI would maintain its activity and quality until receiving approval from the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI).
“The House will continue its support as long as LPI can manage its consistency and professionalism in developing national soccer,” Djamal said during a hearing with LPI at the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Tuesday evening.
With such expectations, the House advised LPI to establish positive communication with PSSI. Commission X also offered assistance in mediating between LPI and PSSI.
LPI, a new league initiated by oil tycoon Arifin Panigoro, boasts of being a national competition that promotes financial independence in soccer clubs nationwide.
The new league was reportedly established to counter the PSSI-supported Indonesian Soccer League. PSSI, however, is currently under public scrutiny over its poor management, especially under Nurdin Halid’s leadership.
Despite not having PSSI approval, Youth and Sports Ministry has expressed full support for LPI. — JP
